Well I may have a favorite anime that I enjoyed the most but I don't think
its possible to watch the "best anime ever" you cant just say that.

Im still waiting on a School Days anime where the female MC cheats on her boyfriend with multiple guys. So until that happens, i have not seen the best anime ever made or to possibly be made

But wouldn't that be just as bar as school days was ?
I don't think gender ending the situation would fix any of its innumerable issues

Wouldn't best anime ever imply that there will be no better anime in the future ?
I don't think we could make a claim like that even if we were able to determine the best anime there is currently

My favourite never changed after I watched Code Geass, and that was 12 years ago. It's not like I didn't find other shows that I love though. I just didn't find anything that gives me as much thrills as Code Geass.

Code Geass was my favourite for 12 years as well :D
Although I wouldn't say it's the best or a flawless anime it just stayed my favourite
(Until I rewatched madoka and code Geass in 2020 and I preferred madoka )

Anime hits different people differently since it's highly subjective. But for me the best anime is definitely Kimetsu no Yaiba, no doubt.

The Major anime series is a masterpiece in character development.

Definitely the one i enjoyed the most watching.
I didn't cried, didn't feel any real strong emotion but the way the story carries on and the fun i had watching it, i don't think something like this will happen again tbh.

Lmao just wait bruh, Major 2nd will be better.

This is probably subjective. There are some shows called "the best of the season/year/decade" that I have watched but did not really suit my tastes even through the years. As for me, I think I already saw that in both FMAB and Evangelion. Madoka got too close to the two as well. Nothing can change my mind.

Definitely 3 very strong picks.
Love all of them

@CuteAssTiger It's not flawless, for sure... just like every other anime, actually xD.
I love Madoka Magica too! Kyubey is the best (and when I say "the best", I also mean "the worst", xD)
Everything changes. Even the happy and funny things eventually disappear. How can I still enjoy this place then?

Absolutely not. I'm always under the belief that there's something out there that can outshine even the best thing in my eyes. I still have a long way to go in my anime journey, and I look forward to finding these golden moments :)

Ditto. My favourites change quite often. Recently I've gotten into different genres (shoujo, SoL, cgdct shows & seinen) so I've been trying to explore these genres and am constantly finding new favourites, such as Kamisama Kiss (shoujo), Coolheaded Hoozuki (seinen) & Koihime Musou (cgdct show).

And suzaku just runs in and spinzaku-kicks the shit out of the sentry gun

Bruuuuuuuuuuuh.... XD

For anime yes and funny thing is no English site or fansub group bothered with them. Had to discover them myself. Anidb and anisearch butchered them in ratings too.

Regarding manga though, still have a lot to go but learning good Japanese is necessary first, especially for manga.

Probably yes, but I don't know about known unkowns (promising stuff I hadn't time for yet) and unknown unknowns (stuff I do not know or which hasn't aired yet).

Given I have a pretty strict selection regime and watched in the order of "most likely will enjoy", odds are high I've seen my favorite already.

There's never anything that would fit the "best ever made" criteria, therefore anime industry shouldn't be an exclusion.

I don't have one single anime that I'd call the best. All the 10/10s in my list (8 out of ~130 completed) are masterpieces in my opinion, and I can't pick one among the to call "the best". Of course, I may find more 10/10 anime in the future, that's what I keep watching for.

No, and that's simply because I don't think the "best anime ever made" even exists, it is such a subjective statement, even the most popular shows have their haters. For me it is more about personal preferences, and do I think I've already seen the best anime based on my own criterias ? No, because I have tons of shows to watch. My current favorite is Kaiba, and as much as I love it, I totally expect (and hope) to find something even better.
But actually, unless I watch every anime ever made, it'll always be impossible for me to say which I'd consider the best.

I haven't found anything I consider better than my current top favourite (and best) in the last 8 years since I started watching anime so I doubt I'll come across anything better than it (rewatched it numerous times to compare to newer stuff and still find it better). Only have 16 or so anime I have ever considered my favourites (10 of which are shown on MAL) so it's pretty easy to remember past lists.

@Ace_Hollow

I find the pacing of the movies to be unacceptably fast; especially the Alabasta movie. Which is why I somewhat recommend against people using the movies as a means to watch through the series faster. The entire reason many of the show's scenes are so emotional is because of the well-paced build-up to those moments, whereas with the movies, they're jetting from scene-to-scene simply to fit upwards of 50 episodes into a 1 hour 30 minute movie. Just to summarize, that's essentially like removing 45 episodes of content.

Anytime I try get someone into One Piece who's hesitant, I recommend them to start with the Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island movie, as it's an original story that doesn't try to re-adapt an already existing arc in record breaking time, and instead presents the viewer with what One Piece can be about, which is a blend of happy and fun moments to dark and sad moments.

Sorry for the long message. I appreciate your response to my previous message. Take care.

No. No one has unless they've watched every single title in the database which probably isn't possible unless they're some extremely old and obsessed otaku from Japan in a retirement home somewhere.

I mean I've seen a lot over 24 years of watching, but it's only 13% of the MAL database, which is always growing larger as new things are made each season.

No, I don't watch "the best" anime because those never interest me, just genre-wise and all that. The most mainstream is prob Death Note still, and I enjoyed it. But I feel like also there's no best anime because they all focus on something else. There can be a best fighting anime, but a fighting anime will never be the best because not everyone likes the same genre.

Honestly, probably no.. Because what was kinda new topic, or new angle back in the days.. Now gets more and more built upon it, and returning to older shows actually doesn't seem that impressive as it once was.. Still huge respect for them, some of them were really the best back in the days.. But newer anime can now go even deeper, mainly playing on meta, that was not that understandable for the past viewer.. Also, I feel, many topics are still to be developed more, and meta play on them should happen after that as well.. There are threads of what could be covered in anime more on MAL forum as well, by the way..

yep, I've probably seen over 500 anime and I do think fullmetal alchemist brotherhood is the best anime ever made and not because it's no.1 on MAL. I personally don't think at this moment in time there is a more complete and well executed show that nails all of the fundamentals and extras to an extremely high standard.

Well, I wouldn't even call my favourite anime "the best" out of all the others, but I'd say it'd be pretty difficult for any "new" anime to enter my favourite list (but I could be wrong ! And I hope to, it'd mean I'm gonna find some hidden gems/really good anime)

I've long since come to terms with there never being another Princess Tutu. I genuinely think that title is on a level of its own, and only other Original works, with no source material, could have a chance at comparison in terms of showcasing what the medium can offer.
